Acupuncture
Acupuncture originated in China more than 3,000 years ago. This practice involves the insertion of very fine needles into acupuncture points along meridian pathways. Meridian pathways are an invisible framework that provide communication throughout the entire body and are also affiliated with organ systems.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine organ systems are responsible for a variety of functions, such as:
- Physiological: Each organ system is responsible for functions that we already know them to have from Western medicine perspective (i.e.: kidneys are a key organ in fluid metabolism). Traditional Chinese medicine expands upon this body of knowledge and understands organs to have additional functions.
- Psychological: Various thoughts and emotions are related to specific organ systems.
- Location: Every organ system correlates with a certain region of the body and physical structure.
- Taste, Smell, Seasons, etc. All have significance in the view of health.
This body of knowledge only continues, as the nature of Traditional Chinese Medicine is expansive and all encompassing. This integrative view of each individual person offers information and insight when looking at any health concern.
